Miles Davis: “Don’t play what’s there, play what’s not there”

Light, color and shine. Together they have the power to amaze and fascinate us. Like a child marveling when looking through a kaleidoscope, or when the sun shines through a stained glass window. The reflection of light can add a mystical quality to a space.

I try to create my own aesthetic in my work by combining the dynamics of these elements with different material choices and structures. By means of abstract light and color sculptures I hope to seduce the viewer to wander to a different perspective. To stop for a moment and to be amazed to get away from the daily worries. My work reveals the beauty of light, color and shine and thus amazes and inspires the viewer.

I paint with fabric and work with shiny, transparent organza, fabrics with bright colors and shiny threads. And I play with lights on hese fabrics. Sometimes 2D, then light sculptures in 3D. I am constantly experimenting with other possibilities of the material and new techniques to discover what is possible. My work evokes curiosity (“hey, is this fabric?”), but it is also fun and surprising. It cannot be pigeonholed. I seduce the viewer to want to touch it, to feel it. Let yourself be distracted and get lost in my art.

During my career in business as a communication trainer and coach, I started with textile art courses. I completed this in the spring of 2019 with a Master Textile Art. Since the beginning of 2019 I have been working as a visual artist. In June 2022 I received a grant from the Henk van der Geest Fund / Prins Bernhard Cultuurfonds for light research, for which I entered into a collaboration with the Institute of Light Design and with the Faculty of Industrial Design Engineering at TU Delft. In September 2023 I will start at the New Academy in Utrecht.
